ISLAMABAD: National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar on Friday directed the relevant officials to complete the work on Lyari Expressway and Kalat-Quetta-Chaman Highway (N-25) in time so that people could start reaping their benefits.
He was addressing a high level meeting held at NHA where progress on various under-construction projects in Balochistan and Sindh provinces were reviewed. The chairman said that heavy amounts are required for maintenance of existing road network and building of new roads and he asked for a judicious use of available resources.
Member (West Zone) Yousuf Barakzai informed the meeting that over 98 percent work on Kolpur Bypass was completed and it is expected to open for traffic soon after completion at a cost of Rs 852 million. It was informed that Kalat-Quetta-Chaman Highway, which is 247 kilometres is also near completion with over 90 percent progress. The chairman directed the concerned staff to get the remaining work done by June 30 this year and said that no further delay would be allowed.
The meeting also discussed progress on Yakmuch-Kharan and Aab-e-Gum-Sangam Road projects. It was further informed that work on three packages of 151 kilometres Khuzdar-Shahdadkot section is in full swing for which. Rs 2800 million were allocated in the current fiscal year. Similarly, Surab-Basima-Nag-Panjgur-Hoshab Highway is being completed in four sections with an average progress of 60 percent.
The chairman further directed the staff to come up with a comprehensive plan for establishing service areas along this highway for travelers and the weigh stations so that the road could be saved against damages by over-loading.
Member (South Zone) Imran Khan Yusufzai briefed the meeting about projects under his jurisdiction. He informed that all necessary resources are in place for completion of remaining work on the Lyari Expressway.
He expressed the hope that 38.8 kilometres long Expressway would be completed by the year end at a cost of Rs 4892 million. The NHA chairman directed him to ensure in time completion of projects. It was also informed that the work on protection bund at Qazi Ahmed Aamri Bridge would be completed by August this year. Larkana-Mohenjodaro, Lakhi-Nauderio-Larkana and Ratodero-Naudero projects are duly completed whereas work is in full swing on Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9). Various matters related to Karachi Northern Bypass, Gharo-Keti Bunder Coastal Road, Kamber-Shahdadkot Road and Sehwan-Ratodero projects also came under discussion.
