ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ordered repolling in PK-23, Shangla, due to a low female voter turnout in general elections on July 25.
The original polls and results have been declared null and void due to fact that less than 10% of the total votes included female voters.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s Shaukat Yousefzai had won but ECP withheld his victory notification. Out of 86,698 registered women, only 3,505 voted.
ECP has since decided to invalidate the results of any constituency where female voter turnout is less than 10%. General Elections 2018 have given rise to much discussion on how to improve future elections.
