ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, said on Friday that the money trail they provided to the court was converted into an evidence against the Sharif family.
“We have provided the money trail … it is just opponents’ propaganda,” she said in response to a question by a reporter as to why were they not submitting the documents explaining the flow of money to set up various businesses overseas. “The money trail we provided has been converted into a stack of evidence against us,” she told reporters outside the accountability court.
Asked about the allegation that she was a beneficial owner of the London flats, Maryam lamented, “At first, it was said that Maryam Nawaz is the owner of London properties. But then, in the supplementary reference, Mian Sahib was named as the owner.”
During hearing of the case on Friday, Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Harris continued cross-examination of joint investigation team (JIT) head Wajid Zia.
Zia told the court that the JIT had unanimously decided to contact UK-based law firm Jeremy Freeman through Quist Solicitors to verify the trust deed of Nielsen and Nescoll companies. He said the firm had testified that the signatures on the trust deed were of Hussain Nawaz.
Zia was also questioned over JIT’s investigation of the sale of Gulf Steel Mills, owned by the Sharif family.
The hearing was then adjourned until April 2.
