KARACHI: Defense counsel in Naqeebullah murder case on Tuesday claimed that the leader of the Grand Jirga was being threatened to drop the case.
Lawyer Faisal Siddiqui on Tuesday wrote to Inspector General (IG) Sindh Amjad Javed Saleemi and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Ahmed Shaikh, informing them that Saif-ur-Rehman, leader of the Grand Jirga pursuing justice for Naqeebullah’s death was being threatened.
Siddiqui in his letter claimed that the prime suspect Rao Anwar’s aides were threatening Rehman’s life over phone calls, and asserting that Anwar is innocent.
The counsel in his letter pled the police to provide security to Rehman and investigate the threats.
Saif-ur-Rehman is also contesting in the upcoming general elections from NA-242 constituency.
Former SSP Malir Rao Anwar is alleged in the encounter killing of 27 year old Naqeeb Ullah Mehsood on January 13 in the suburbs of Karachi. Naqeeb Ullah was killed on allegations of being affiliated with a terrorist organization and accused of being involved in several murders.
